A little historical note

The famous Bhosale Gharana who ruled Thanjavur in South India from 1600 to 1900 not only encouraged artists from different fields, but also gave birth to many music compositions and plays.

Some compositions performed in the show were composed by Shahajiraje Bhosale from the Bhosale Gharana. Parvati Kumar, Kittappa Pillai, and Sucheta Bhide-Chapekar studied the art traditions of the Thanjavur Gharana in depth and passed it on to their disciples.

DEPICTION OF THE GURU-SHISHYA PARAMPARA

After Ganesh-Vandana, the show took flight with Smita Mahajan and Alka Lajmi’s performance on ‘Shree Ganeshay Mangalam’, a composition by Shahajiraje Bhosale. It was followed by Smita Mahajan’s performance on the composition ‘Pahile Krishna anand murari, hari Yamuna tiri daitya sanhari’ from Raag Anandbhairavi (which is based on the word “Krishna”). Alka Lajmi gave a powerful performance on the theme of silent love through compositions ‘Sakhiye sajani majasi tarif’ and ‘Sakhi mi sangu kashi’ based on Raag Kafi.

The affection between a mother and her daughter was gracefully expressed through the composition ‘Ragawu kashi tula ladke’ based on Raag Kalyani. The show came to an end with a prayer performed by both guru and shishya.

All the artists were felicitated by the directors of Rithwik Foundation, Praveen Kadle and Chetana Kadle. Amruta Dharap anchored the show and presented the vote of thanks.
