A GOOD PERFORMANCE DOES NOT THRIVE ON APPLAUSE: Audience mesmerised by the performance of flutist, Pandit Nityanand Haldipur

Lokmat:

Rithwik Foundation for Performing Arts conducted Pandit Nityanand Haldipur’s flute concert in their auditorium in Kothrud, Pune. Pandit Haldipur interacted with the audience and had heartfelt candid conversations. His guru Annapurna Devi, who he thought of as a Devi (Goddess) in disguise, had once given him a wise counsel: “Never count the number of spectators, do not look for their applause. Just perform without expectations. Only then will progress come your way.”

Born in a spiritual family, Pandit Haldipur Ji got his primary guidance regarding the art, technique, and beauty of playing the flute from his father Niranjan Haldipur. His father believed that small children grasp knowledge more efficiently. And so, his father had started his training under the guidance of renowned flutist Pandit Pannalal Ghosh at the tender age of nine. Pandit Ghosh trained him in such a manner that all his seniors were astounded by his flute vadan. His performance on the first death anniversary of his Guru had brought tears in the eyes of the audience. He also shared that merely observing his Guru, Annapurna Devi’s innate flute skills was a training for him. He is of the opinion that one should attain unity with one’s art.
