Bhagyesh Marathe

Bhagyesh Marathe is a promising vocalist of Indian classical music who belongs to Gwaliar and Agra gharana. He was born into a rich musical family and has been lucky to be the grandson of the legendary Indian classical vocalist Sangeet Bhushan pandit Ram Marathe. He started learning tabla at the age of 4 and continued for almost 15 years with various gurus like Shri Prabhu Ghate, his uncle Shri Mukund Marathe, Pt. Mukundraj Deo and Shri Gajanan Raul (disciple of Ustad Allarkha Khan Sahib).

Bhagyesh completed his bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Kishanchand Chellaram (Known as KC) College Churchgate, Mumbai. At the age of 19, while completing his second year of graduation his father encouraged him for a career in music. On his father’s advice and urge he started listening to his grandfather’s renditions and songs and many other Indian Classical vocalists. He was mesmerized with Pt. Kumar Gandharv and his grandfather’s Gayaki and got so influenced that he decided to take singing as his profession. He began learning music under the guidance of his father Pt. Sanjay Marathe for 6 to 8 yrs.

He further mastered his talent from Pt. Kedar Bodas at Dr. Gangubai Hangal Gurukul in Hubli. Thanks to the family support he received, today he is happily pursuing his dream. Bhagyesh, a scholar of Dr. Gangubai Hangal Gurukul is an apt and humble youth icon for talent, knowledge, and inspiration to the youth fraternity. Bhagyesh has performed in various youth festivals and Sangeet Mahotsavs like Pt. Bhimesn Joshi Mahotsav, Pt. Ram Marathe Smruti Samaroha, Sushilatai Ganu Sangeet Mahotsav, Khyayadnya by Kalyan Gayan Samaj, Aadi Anant festival by NCPA and IIT Chennai, Dr. Vasatrao Deshpande Sangeet Mahotsav.

He has participated in competitions like Amar Sanskrutik Mandal, Vasai; Deval Club, Kolhapur; Panvel Cultural Association, Panvel. He has won awards such as Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Yuvapuraskar, Kusumagraj Yuvapuraskar for excellence in Khayalgayaki, Pt. Vazebuwa Puraskar by Pune Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pt. D,V. Paluskar Puraskar 2012.
