Mrunmayee Phatak has travelled a wonderful musical journey right from the age of six. She received her training in Classical music from her guru Dr. Shobhatai Abhyankar and later from Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar. Her hard earned flexible voice and sincere dedication towards the ‘riyaaz’ made her accomplish the coveted A- grade artist of All India Radio.
She has been awarded by Pt. Jasraj gaurav shishyavrutti, National scholarship, Sawai Gandharva shishyavrutti, “Gaanhira” puraskar, Paingankar Smrutee Puraskar, Pt. Gangadhar Buva Pimpalkhare Yuva puraskar, Pandita Rohini Bhate Award and many more recognitions. Her other accomplishment includes giving playback for Marathi films Anumati, Anya and many private albums.
Determining to be versatile in music she took guidance in semi-classical music from Guru Smt. Kusumtai Shende and Shri Chandrashekhar Deshpande to learn Natya-sangeet. She remains the first choice as playback singer for top Kathak dancers.
In the era of quick success, Mrunmayee is not lured and her heart lies in Classical music as she feels every classical rendition can be put forth in new thought or innovation. She also believes that the upcoming generation should receive a proper guidance in this field and takes efforts to make them realize in initial stages and groom them in voice training and encourages them for the perfect ‘riyaaz’.
The voice she has earned through passion, dedication and hard-work continues and aspires to take the Mewati gharana to new heights by cultivating their styles and rendering it with fresh breath and contemplation.
