Vinayak Hegde Mutmurudu was born into a music-loving family to Sri Dattatreya and Smt. Yashoda Hegde. Inspired from childhood by the legendary music of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, he developed a deep passion for Hindustani classical music at a very young age.
His formal training began under Pt. Shripad Hegde Somanmane of Sirsi, followed by nine years of intensive guidance from renowned vocalist Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi of Hubli. He further refined his Bhimsen Joshi–style gayaki under Pt. Shrinivas Bhimsen Joshi for six years and is currently a gandabandh disciple of Pt. Upendra Bhat.
With over two decades of concert experience, Vinayak is a respected exponent of Kirana Gharana gayaki. Known for his rich, soulful voice, refined khayal and light classical presentations, and lightning-fast taans reminiscent of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi’s robust style, he has performed on prestigious platforms across India and internationally, including Singapore.
