SANGEET MEJWANI: ‘KHAYAL VIMARSHA’ SERIES EPILOGUE
Rithwik Foundation for Performing Arts conducted an event ‘Khayal Vimarsha’ in which senior classical vocalist
Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande elaborated on the skills of any composer in enhancing the beauty of a raag. He expanded upon the musical aspects of various creators like, Ratanjankar Buwa, Pandit K.G. Ginde,
Ustad Amir Khan, Pandit Kumar Gandharva and his childhood friend Dr. Chandrashekhar Rele, Pandit Ramashray Jha and G.N. Natu. He also presented his own compositions.
The concluding session of this series was conducted at Gandharva Mahavidyalay in Pune. He proficiently explained how the form of any raag gets transforned according to the musical personality of the composer without changing its basic framework. Some classical singers are of poetic nature, hence explained, and hence, their compositions are also densely packed with rich vocabulary. Some get inspired by traditional bandishes and then create a new version within the same context. His own belief is to feel the particular composer’s emotions while presenting any raag so that different bandishes from the same raag can have different “raag swaroop“ or forms.
Pandit Deshpande presented various bandishes like ‘Dukhwa ho gaye sathi, jab koi rok na pati’, ‘Bal gayi jyot, nilima laalim’ based on Raag Puriyadhanashree and ‘Sundar surajanawa thado’ from Raag Charukeshi.
He was accompanied by tabla player Ulhas Kulkarni and co-singer Srujan Deshpande.
All the artists were greeted by the directors of Rithwik Foundation, Praveen Kadle and Chetana Kadle. Rashmi Wathare, institute co-ordinator, compered for the event.
