Born into a family of music connoisseurs, Shantanu Gokhale started learning the nuances of Indian Classical music at the tender age of 3, where his maternal grandfather Shree Uddhav Vaidya would recite basic tabla- bols and Shantanu would try to emulate them. Later, he started getting basic knowledge about ragas and continued to play harmonium till the age of 12.
Parallel to this was the rich musical environment at home due to his paternal grandfather Dr. SV Gokhale, who was secretary of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal. Shantanu grew up witnessing the great masters of Indian classical music, who would frequent the Gokhale residence.
At the age of 14, the scintillating sound of the Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji’s Santoor, which Shantanu had been hearing, largely captivated him. After getting direction and blessings from Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji himself, Shantanu learned from Shree Dhananjay Daithankar, Shiv Ji’s disciple, for 7 years. Later, Shantanu became Pt.
Shivkumar Sharma Ji’s disciple for 8 years and was fortunate to have learned the vast repertoire of Indian classical music in the traditional Guru Shishya Parampara. Living up to his grandfather’s legacy, Shantanu also completed his post-graduation in Dental Surgery and works as Consultant Endodontist at the prestigious Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune.
