Pt. Ronu Majumdar’s journey from his childhood in Varanasi to a celebrated life in Mumbai has been nothing short of remarkable. Born to a homeopathic doctor and accomplished artist who played the flute as a hobby, RonuJi’s musical path was inspired by his father and further guided by legendary gurus like Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao and Pandit Ravi Shankar.
Beginning his flute training at six, he performed his first concert at thirteen and gained recognition with the All India Radio Award. His illustrious career spans Indian classical music, Bollywood, and international collaborations, including work with Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, and Philip Glass.
RonuJi has been part of memorable albums like Chants of India and Hollywood projects like Primary Colors. He has performed with luminaries like Lata Mangeshkar, Zakir Hussain, and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, earning prestigious honors like the Sangeet Natak Academy Award and Grammy nomination for Tabula Rasa.
His Bollywood contributions began in 1981 with R.D. Burman and extended to partnerships with Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj. Today, Ronu Majumdar stands as a beacon of musical excellence, celebrated worldwide.
