BELLS IN RESONANCE PORTRAYS THE GLORY OF CLASSICAL DANCE AND VOCALS

The first day of ‘Bells In Resonance’ commenced with grandeur, remembering the legends of Hindustani classical arts along with their compositions. The show mesmerized the audience through the resonance of ghungroos, sur, and instrumental taal. Classical Kathak dancer Rujuta Soman captivated the audience through her enchanting performance.
The festival was dedicated to Late senior Kathak Nrityaguru Pandit Birju Maharaj and Late senior Nrityaguru Pandita Rohini Bhate.
Guru Rani Khanam, Roshan Datye, Amala Shekhar, and Rujuta Soman were invited to the stage for the lamp lighting ceremony (Deepaprajwalan).
The festival began with Rujuta Soman’s Ganesh-Vandana composed by Pandita Rohini Bhate herself. Her performance was a spectacular combination of her dance skills and facial expressions. She was accompanied by Sameer Puntambekar (Tabla), Manoj Desai (Vocals), Tulsi Kulkarni (Padhant), Nasir Khan (Sarangi).
The next performance was ‘Dhrupad’ by Pandit Birju Maharaj’s disciple Guru Rani Khanam. She performed a Lucknow style thaat composition ‘Pujan chali Mahadev se’ composed by Miya Tansen and also gave a performance on Tihai based on a traditional bandish. The audience was pleasantly drenched in the sound effects of rain drops, thunder, and lightning created with just the “bol” of her ghungroos.
She ended her performance with Hazrat Amir Khusro’s Persian Awadhi bandish and tarana.
The first day of the festival concluded with the vocals of senior vocalist Pandit Ajay Pohankar and his son Abhijit Pohankar. Compositions such as ‘Ranjish hi sahi’, ‘Saiyaan mose bolo batiya’ from his album ‘Sajanwa’ got a huge round of applause. The audience was spellbound by the magical effect of a “meend” produced on the keyboard. Pandit Pohankar was accompanied by Mukundraj Deo (Tabla), Milind Kulkarni (Harmonium), Shubham Khandalkar (Swarmandal), and Sanjay Sonar (Tanpura).
